The Ice Cream Shack

Our story

Three generations, one family recipe

The Ice Cream Shack is run by the Prado family. Jorge Prado is the third generation to make ice cream for a living, and he grew up doing it.

1990

It started in Mexico

Jorge's grandfather opened the family's first ice cream shop in 1990, in his hometown in Mexico: real fruit paletas, scoops made by hand, the flavours everyone in the neighbourhood grew up on. That shop is where the family recipes come from.

Jorge grew up behind the counter

The family brought the recipes to the U.S. and opened shops here, too. Jorge started working them in fifth grade: scooping, lettering the signs, learning which paletas sell out first on a hot day. By the time he opened his own place, he'd spent most of his life doing it.

2026

The Shack opens in Old Towne Orange

In April 2026, The Ice Cream Shack opened half a block west of the Plaza, at 238 W. Chapman Ave, Unit 100. Same family, same recipes, now with a doodle wall that half of Orange County has taken a selfie in front of. ¡Qué rico!
